Design
Staff Description
The Design Staff functions on two levels. On the more practical level, the staff handles the design and production of Heights documents such as posters, invitations and e-mail graphics, not to mention the folio itself. In doing so, the staff is able to develop, reinforce and convey the identity and tradition of the publication through the materials it designs and disseminates.
Editors’ Duties
The Design Editors oversee the design and production of official Heights materials, as well as the growth and well-being of the staff as designers.
Members’ Duties
During the first semester, the Design Staff member is required to (re-)learn the essential elements of design and typography. This is of course with the guidance of the Editors, as readings and exercises will be provided so as to refine individual styles and talents.
By the second semester, the Design Staff will be assigned individual projects. They will be asked to design and overlook the production of posters, invitations, and other Heights documents. Design studies for the cover, dividers and layout of the folio will also be asked of the staffer.
Upcoming Activities
Besides having design exercises during the first semester, the Design Staff will also hold talks on foundation typography, book design and general publication design.
