Staff Description
The English Staff is Heights’ deliberating staff for all contributions submitted in the English language. It deliberates on, and screens works to be published in the issue. It also sponsors events such as creative talks and reading circles to foster members’ rapport, and more importantly, members’ proficiency in critiquing literature.
Editors’ Duties
Editors oversee all English-staff related events. They shall ensure that proper procedure is followed during, and after deliberations. This includes reconsidering works that have been accepted/ rejected at staff level, and raising them for Editorial Board deliberations. Editors are also responsible for disseminating information to their members with regard to deliberations and events.
Members’ Duties
As an English Staffer, one is expected to attend all staff-related activities. Deliberations form a major part of a staffer’s experience, as these sessions bring together different members of the staff to discuss (and sometimes, contend) the deliberations materials.
Staffers are expected to have a proficient grounding in the Formalist framework, and are highly encouraged to consult with the editors, or veteran staffers outside of deliberations sessions. One is also expected to read the required works to be discussed (which the editors shall post via e-groups and text messaging), so that one may properly engage in staff discussions and argue for, or against, particular works.
Upcoming activities
Deliberations sessions will start right after the Call for Contributions, when the Secretary-Generals have collated the contributions.
